The friendship that occurs between Holly and Paul is theatrical with twists and turns. Their path to being together is not direct. The obstacles that stand in the way of their relationship is melodramatic from the acting to the music. In one particular scene, Holly’s character goes through a series of emotions during her relationship with Paul. Holly beings the scene happy and curious. During her conversation with Paul, she quickly becomes distraught and begins to cry. By the end of the scene, Holly is in a state of exhaustion and falls asleep. During each of these emotions Holly’s character makes it extremely apparent how she is feeling, each emotion is exaggerated with a lot of shouting and tears. In addition, the plot itself is melodramatic because there is a sense of sadness and loneliness between these two characters. As the viewer, you don’t have a lot of hope for these two to be together.
